Awesome sightings on Humpback whales and Brydes whales

On all 3 boat trips we managed to spot Brydes whales and Humpback whales today. We currently have shoals of bait fish (anchovies) off The Point of Robberg which these 2 species prey on. On our 12h00 trip we counted 6 Humpback whales and another 25 blows comprising of Humpback whales and Brydes whales.

Amazing sigtings on Southern Right Whales

Great Humpback whale sightings

  In our opinion this season has been the best in terms of Humpback whale sightings.There has not been a single trip where we have not seen these “angels of the sea” and soon you’ll be able to hear them too. A new hydrophone has been ordered and will be in operation soon.  Male Humpback READ MORE

Ocean Blue Humpback whale sightings

Humpback whales a plenty! We have been spoilt this week with sightings on “these angels of the sea” Our skipper Mario is enjoying the sight of 6 Humpback whales which had encircled the boat, giving our clients a 360 degree spectacular close encounter.

Southern Right whales arrived

Yesterday was a great day to see Southern Right whales. A total of 6 gentle giants were enjoyed by guests on the first trip and then again on the second trip. These slow moving mammals are here to mate and give birth. This behavior makes for great viewing and awesome photos.

Cape Clawless Otter sighting in Bitou River

During a recent outing to the Bitou River for a clean-up,the volunteers had this amazing encounter with a Cape Clawless Otter.  It is one of South Africa’s endangered species and there is believed to be four families in the Plettenberg Bay area.

The African Penguin Endagered seabird

The African Penguin (Spheniscus demersus) is  one of our most endangered seabirds.  There are only an estimated 55 000 of these endemic birds left in South Africa, about 5% of the original population. There are only 2 major breeding colonies, one in Port Elizabeth and the other in Simons Town  

Ocean Blue weekend whale sightings

The weekend proved to be a great time for us. On every trip that we went out, our guests were spoilt with awesome sightings of Humpback whales and Brydes whales. The Humpback whales were the most entertaining as they lob-tailed, spy-hopped, slapped their pectoral fins and breached        

Ocean Blue boat “Gaia” refurbishment

Ocean Blue and Orca Foundation’s Research and education boat “Gaia” is in the process of going through it’s 5 year refurbishment.  All the staff at Ocean Blue and Orca stripped the boat down as a team building excercise.
