The Black-Footed African Penguin

The Black-Footed African Penguin is found on the South-Western coast of Africa, living in colonies on 24 islands between Namibia and Algoa Bay, near Port Elizabeth, South Africa. There are also a few colonies on the main land. The most famous one is on Boulders beach in Cape Town. The closest one to Plettenberg Bay is on St Croix Island in Algoa Bay.

Since we don’t have a colony in Plettenberg Bay itself it’s always nice to see them swimming around in the bay. This normally happens after strong winds when the penguins comes into the bay’s calmer waters to rest before continuing their food hunt.
